Heart disease is any of several abnormalities of the heart and its function in maintaining blood circulation. ATENOLOL (Tenormin) is used for decreasing death due to heart problems after a heart attack. Atenolol is a beta-blocker. Exactly how Atenolol works to decrease heart problems after a heart attack is not known.
BENAZEPRIL (Lotensin) is used for treating high blood pressure. It may be used alone or with other blood pressure medicines. Benazepril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by decreasing a chemical that tightens blood vessels. This causes the blood vessels to relax (dilate), which lowers blood pressure.
ENALAPRILAT (Vasotec® IV) is an antihypertensive (blood pressure lowering agent) known as an ACE inhibitor. Enalaprilat controls high blood pressure (hypertension) by relaxing blood vessels; it is not a cure. High blood pressure levels can damage your kidneys, and may lead to a stroke or heart failure.
