Heart disease is any of several abnormalities of the heart and its function in maintaining blood circulation. Heart disease is the cause of approximately half the deaths in the United States each year. Among the most common causes of heart disease are degenerative changes in the coronary blood vessels, infectious diseases, and congenital heart disease. Congenital defects result from abnormal development of the fetal heart, commonly in the valves or septa. Such defects can be precipitated by environmental conditions in the uterus, such as the presence of the rubella virus, or they can be inherited. Infectious diseases acquired after birth, such as rheumatic fever, syphilis, and endocarditis, can also damage the valves of the heart. In addition, the heart muscle itself can be affected: hypertensive heart disease can cause it to enlarge, and it can become inflamed by rheumatic fever.
Acomplia
Acomplia is a medication that is used to treat obese or overweight patients, it may be used as an aid to smoking cessation and to improve high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and triglyceride levels
AMLODIPINE (Norvasc) is used for treating high blood pressure and angina (chest pain). It may be used alone or with other medicines. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing (dilating) your blood vessels, lowering blood pressure, and decreasing heart rate, which lowers the workload on the heart. It also dilates coronary arteries increasing blood flow to the heart.
FELODIPINE (Plendil®) is a calcium-channel blocker. It affects the amount of calcium found in your heart and muscle cells. This results in relaxation of blood vessels, which can reduce the amount of work the heart has to do. Felodipine reduces high blood pressure (hypertension). It is not a cure
METOPROLOL (Lopressor) is used for treating high blood pressure, alone or with other medicines; long-term treatment of chest pain; and reducing the risk of death because of heart problems in patients who have had a heart attack. Lopressor is a beta-adrenergic blocking agent ("beta-blocker"). It works by reducing the amount of work the heart has to do (reduces chest pain) and the amount of blood the heart pumps out (lowers high blood pressure). It is also used to stabilize the heart rhythm in conditions in which the heart is beating too fast or at an irregular rhythm.
VALSARTAN (Diovan®) helps lower blood pressure to normal levels. It controls high blood pressure, but it is not a cure. High blood pressure can damage your kidneys, and may lead to a stroke or heart failure. Valsartan helps prevent these things from happening
Quinapril belongs to the class of medications called ACE inhibitors. It is used for the treatment of high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. It works by relaxing blood vessels and by making the heart pump more efficiently. Quinapril may be used in addition to diuretics (water pills) known as thiazide diuretics (e.g., hydrochlorothiazide) when one medication has not been found to control blood pressure satisfactorily.
ALTACE (Ramipril) is a type of medicine called an ACE inhibitor. ACE stands for angiotensin-converting enzyme. It is a chemical compound that helps create a protein named angiotensin II. Angiotensin II can raise blood pressure by causing your blood vessels to narrow. ALTACE® helps lower your blood pressure by decreasing the amount of ACE your body makes.
PROPRANOLOL (Inderal®) works by slowing down the heart and reducing blood pressure, which helps it pump more efficiently and reduces the workload on the heart. It may also interfere with the action of adrenalin and other similar chemicals in the brain preventing migraine headaches
ATENOLOL (Tenormin) is used for decreasing death due to heart problems after a heart attack. Atenolol is a beta-blocker. Exactly how Atenolol works to decrease heart problems after a heart attack is not known.
BENAZEPRIL (Lotensin) is used for treating high blood pressure. It may be used alone or with other blood pressure medicines. Benazepril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by decreasing a chemical that tightens blood vessels. This causes the blood vessels to relax (dilate), which lowers blood pressure.
ENALAPRILAT (Vasotec® IV) is an antihypertensive (blood pressure lowering agent) known as an ACE inhibitor. Enalaprilat controls high blood pressure (hypertension) by relaxing blood vessels; it is not a cure. High blood pressure levels can damage your kidneys, and may lead to a stroke or heart failure. Enalaprilat also helps to treat patients with congestive heart failure (heart does not pump strongly enough)
CAPTOPRIL (Capoten®) is an antihypertensive (blood pressure lowering agent) known as an ACE inhibitor. Captopril controls high blood pressure (hypertension) by relaxing blood vessels; it is not a cure. High blood pressure levels can damage your kidneys, and may lead to a stroke or heart failure. Captopril also can help to treat heart failure (heart does not pump strongly enough) and certain kidney disorders
BISOPROLOL (Zebeta®) belongs to a group of medicines called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers reduce the workload on the heart and help it to beat more regularly. Bisoprolol controls, but does not cure, high blood pressure (hypertension). Bisoprolol may also be used to improve symptoms in patients with heart disease
CLOPIDOGREL (Plavix) is used for reducing the risk of stroke or heart attack in patients who have already had a heart attack or stroke, or have other circulatory problems due to narrowing and hardening of the arteries.
Clopidogrel is a platelet aggregation inhibitor. It works by slowing or stopping platelets from sticking to blood vessel walls or injured tissues.
DILTIAZEM (Cardizem®) is a calcium-channel blocker. It affects the amount of calcium found in your heart and muscle cells. This results in relaxation of blood vessels, which can reduce the amount of work the heart has to do. Diltiazem injection steadies and slows a fast, uneven heart rate
ISOSORBIDE MONONITRATE (Ismo., Imdur®, Monoket®) is a type of vasodilator. It relaxes blood vessels, increasing the blood and oxygen supply to your heart. It is effective in the long-term treatment of angina associated with coronary artery disease
AMIODARONE (Cordarone®) is an antiarrhythmic agent and is used to help your heart to beat regularly. Because this drug can have significant side-effects, this is a medicine that is used when irregular heartbeats have not responded to other medicines. It is usually reserved for treating potentially life-threatening heartbeat problems
METOCLOPRAMIDE (Prandin®) is used for short term treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in certain patients who do not respond to other therapy. It is used to treat symptoms of a certain digestive problem in diabetic patients (diabetic gastroparesis).Reglan is a gastrointestinal stimulant and anti-nauseant. It works by increasing the movement of the stomach and intestines to help move food and acid out of the stomach more quickly. It also works in certain areas in the brain to decrease nausea

What is a generic medication?
Wikipedia gives the following definition: “Generic drug (pl. generic drugs, short: generics) is a drug which is produced and distributed without a brand name. A generic must contain the same active ingredients as the original formulation. In most cases, it is considered bioequivalent to the brand name counterpart with respect to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. By extension, therefore, generics are assumed to be identical in dose, strength, route of administration, safety, efficacy, and intended use.”
Does a generic medication differ from a brand name drug?
Not much, actually. But there is a difference, of course. To see the difference more clearly we have made a table: click here

Details
Active ingredient
same
Whether a manufacturer makes brand name drugs or generic drugs, the standards are the same. The ingredients are the most important element. The ingredient in the drug that helps cure you or make you feel better, is called the "medicinal" or active ingredient. While both generic and brand name drugs must have the same amounts of good quality medicinal ingredients, other ingredients are also found in drugs.
Effect
same
Since the active ingredient is the same, the effect produced by the generic drugs and the brand name drugs is the same.
Name
different
Generic medications cannot be manufactured under brand names since this is a copyright infringement case. Generics are usually named by their active ingredient names.
Shape
different
Shape of a pills is also a copyright of a brand, thus the shape of generic pills is different from the one of the original brand
Color
different
Color of a pills is also a copyright of a brand, thus the color of generic pills is different from the one of the original brand
Price
different
Generic medications are considerably cheaper than the brand name drugs.
Why are generic pills cheaper than the brand name ones?
The principal reason for the reduced price of generic medicines is that the creation of the generic drug runs up less cost and therefore a lower price can be offered and still maintain profitability.
Manufacturers of generic drugs are mainly able to avoid the following three costs that brand name pharmaceutical companies incur: (1) costs associated with the research and development of the drug; (2) costs associated obtaining regulatory approval (i.e. proving safety and efficacy of a drug); and (3) marketing costs.
First, Generic manufacturers do not incur the cost of drug discovery and instead reverse-engineer existing brand name drugs to allow them to manufacture bioequivalent versions. Click here
