An antacid is any substance, generally a base, which counteracts stomach acidity. In other words, antacids are stomach acid neutralizers.
Antacids relieve the pain of peptic ulcers. They perform a neutralization reaction, i.e. they buffer gastric acid, raising the pH to reduce acidity in the stomach. When gastric hydrochloric acid reaches the nerves in the gastrointestinal mucosa, they signal pain to the central nervous system. This happens when these nerves are exposed, like in ulcers. The gastric acid may also reach ulcers in the esophagus or the duodenum. Other mechanisms may contribute, such as the effect of aluminum ions inhibiting smooth muscle cell contraction and delaying gastric emptying.
Reglan
METOCLOPRAMIDE (Prandin®) is used for short term treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in certain patients who do not respond to other therapy. It is used to treat symptoms of a certain digestive problem in diabetic patients (diabetic gastroparesis).Reglan is a gastrointestinal stimulant and anti-nauseant. It works by increasing the movement of the stomach and intestines to help move food and acid out of the stomach more quickly. It also works in certain areas in the brain to decrease nausea
ACIPHEX (Rabeprazole) is a drug that helps manage the effects of acid reflux disease, working to cool the heartburn and helping your body to help itself.
RANITIDINE (Zantac) is used for treating certain conditions that cause your body to make too much stomach acid (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). It is also used to treat ulcers of the small intestine that have not responded to other treatment. It may be used as a short-term alternative to oral ranitidine, in patients who are not able to take medicine by mouth. Ranitidine is an H2-receptor blocker. It works by blocking the action of histamine in the stomach. This reduces the amount of acid the stomach makes. Reducing stomach acid helps to reduce heartburn, to heal irritation of the esophagus, and to heal ulcers of the stomach or intestines.
SUCRALFATE (Carafate®) helps to treat or prevent the recurrence of stomach or duodenal (intestinal) ulcers. Sucralfate coats and protects ulcers or irritated stomach lining from the effects of acid. Sucralfate is sometimes prescribed for other gastrointestinal problems like acid-reflux, esophagitis, or mouth ulceration
FAMOTIDINE (Pepcid®) is a type of antihistamine that blocks the release of stomach acid. Famotidine is used to treat stomach and intestinal ulcers. It can relieve ulcer pain and discomfort. Famotidine is also used to control acid reflux (heartburn)
PANTOPRAZOLE (Protonix) is used for short-term treatment (7 to 10 days) of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) who have a history of irritation of the esophagus. It may be used for conditions that cause your body to make too much stomach acid (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. It works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
TRETINOIN, ATRA (Retin-a) is used for initiating remission for a certain type of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) that has failed to respond to other therapies. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Tretinoin is a retinoid. How it works in APL is not completely understood. It is thought to decrease the growth of cells associated with APL.
ONDANSETRON (Zofran®) helps to relieve nausea and vomiting, especially when associated with the treatment of cancer (chemotherapy). Ondansetron may also be used to prevent or treat nausea and vomiting that occurs after surgery, and occasionally is used to treat severe vomiting during pregnancy
OMEPRAZOLE (Prilosec) is used for treating heartburn or irritation of the esophagus caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It may be used for short-term treatment of ulcers of the stomach or small intestines. It may be used to decrease the risk of stomach bleeding in severely ill patients. Omeprazole/Sodium Bicarbonate is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) and sodium bicarbonate combination. The PPI works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. The sodium bicarbonate slows the breakdown of the PPI in the stomach, which helps to increase absorption of the PPI.
ESOMEPRAZOLE (Nexium) is used for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in patients with a history of irritation and swelling of the esophagus when medicine cannot be taken by mouth. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. It works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
LOPERAMIDE (Imodium®) helps to control and relieve the symptoms of diarrhea including traveler's diarrhea and the diarrhea associated with inflammatory bowel diseases

What is a generic medication?
Wikipedia gives the following definition: “Generic drug (pl. generic drugs, short: generics) is a drug which is produced and distributed without a brand name. A generic must contain the same active ingredients as the original formulation. In most cases, it is considered bioequivalent to the brand name counterpart with respect to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. By extension, therefore, generics are assumed to be identical in dose, strength, route of administration, safety, efficacy, and intended use.”
Does a generic medication differ from a brand name drug?
Not much, actually. But there is a difference, of course. To see the difference more clearly we have made a table: click here

Details
Active ingredient
same
Whether a manufacturer makes brand name drugs or generic drugs, the standards are the same. The ingredients are the most important element. The ingredient in the drug that helps cure you or make you feel better, is called the "medicinal" or active ingredient. While both generic and brand name drugs must have the same amounts of good quality medicinal ingredients, other ingredients are also found in drugs.
Effect
same
Since the active ingredient is the same, the effect produced by the generic drugs and the brand name drugs is the same.
Name
different
Generic medications cannot be manufactured under brand names since this is a copyright infringement case. Generics are usually named by their active ingredient names.
Shape
different
Shape of a pills is also a copyright of a brand, thus the shape of generic pills is different from the one of the original brand
Color
different
Color of a pills is also a copyright of a brand, thus the color of generic pills is different from the one of the original brand
Price
different
Generic medications are considerably cheaper than the brand name drugs.
Why are generic pills cheaper than the brand name ones?
The principal reason for the reduced price of generic medicines is that the creation of the generic drug runs up less cost and therefore a lower price can be offered and still maintain profitability.
Manufacturers of generic drugs are mainly able to avoid the following three costs that brand name pharmaceutical companies incur: (1) costs associated with the research and development of the drug; (2) costs associated obtaining regulatory approval (i.e. proving safety and efficacy of a drug); and (3) marketing costs.
First, Generic manufacturers do not incur the cost of drug discovery and instead reverse-engineer existing brand name drugs to allow them to manufacture bioequivalent versions. Click here
